Tips For A Successful Holiday Comedy Party

Tips For A Successful Holiday Comedy Party

The corporate comedy event can transform the usual dull banquet or holiday party into a huge success. While it can be a challenge to entertain your corporate officers and staff with a comedy show it can also be a great way to break down barriers with in the organization.

The number one thing to do is to book the right act. The comic should have experience with corporate holiday comedy events. The comic should understand that this is not a comedy club gig and they need to keep it clean. Again get a professional that is used to working clean at this kind of holiday party. Their promo pack should include a list of corporate holiday performances. If this list is only comedy clubs with no other corporate or cruse ship appearances listed be careful. A good agent or booker will find an act experienced in this specific type event.

Once you have the show picked out it is time to consider some other things that will help allow the comic to be at his or her very best.

Good sound and lights are a must. The funniest comic in the world will get nothing if they can not be heard. Good light is also important. A riser or stage will allow better sight lines for the audience is also helpful but not required.

If dinner is also part of the evening it is best to have dinner concluded prior to the start of the show. The clearing of dishes and noise associated with it will detract form the show.

If you are having a gift exchange or awards presentation that should take place after the show. Many trophy stores online offer a great selection and discount pricing, but make sure you give them enough time for production and shipping.

A representative of the company should say a few words prior to the entertainment. Welcome remarks and thanks to the organizer would be appropriate. This will help people get settled and focus on the stage.

The intro for the comic should start with some credits where the audience may have seen them, (television or movie credits). The intro should always climax with the acts name. Any inside information about the company or individuals in attendance can help make the event more fun. While many of the corporate comedy acts have built in bits for this a little input is helpful.

The comic will usually do a show 30 to 45 minutes long. Remember if the audience has just had a large meal they will start to get sleepy if they have to sit much longer than that and you still want them awake if you have awards or speeches later.

There you have done it, put together a successful holiday corporate comedy event and you can now enjoy the positive comments from all those in attendance.

This is a Great Time to Go to the Comedy Club!

This is a Great Time to Go to the Comedy Club

This is a great time to hang out at your local comedy club. Why would I say such a thing.
Due to the economic downturn and a number of other factors the number of comedy clubs have decreased in recent years. High gas prices have cut out many of the one
Nighters which means fewer and fewer stages for the comic to work on. While this is a bad thing for the comics trying to hit it big it has also raised the bar to get the remaining gigs. The talent at your local comedy could be at an all time high. So it is a great time to go see some very talented performers.

Many of the headlining comics working the clubs today started out in the 80s and 90s and have spent years building and refining their acts. Today they are experienced and can deal with most any event that takes place during the show. These are the people that started out with Tim Allen, Rosie, and Ellen and are still working the comedy clubs and improving there skills. At the same time the younger acts are working hard to take one of the few headlining spots from the established acts. Some of them are outstanding talents and they have to be great just to compete. They are a treat to see and now is a great time to see them.

Once the reality craze on television slows down sit coms will make a come back. The new shows will star the acts that are working in the clubs now. The list of successful television shows based on a stand ups material is endless. It is a formula that has worked over and over, and will again to produce some excellent television shows. You will be the one saying I saw him or her at the comedy club.

There is one other great reason to go to the comedy club. It is good for you, laughter has been proven to be good for your health. It has been proven to reduce stress and it is just plain fun. If you live in one of the cities or towns that no longer has a comedy club you can get your laughs online. While it is not the same as a club experience, there are sites that offer great comedy clips and stand up comedy video for free.

Comedy Club Night can Boost Revenue for Hotel Lounge or Banquet room

With the current down turn in the economy many hotels are scrambling to find new ways to generate revenue . One option that works well is to turn the empty bar or banquet room into a comedy club for the night.

Historically comedy clubs and other live entertainment venues have thrived in difficult economic times. In the 80s during the gas shortages and recession the comedy clubs boomed. While we are in uncertain times this may be the case during our current economic downturn. Many comedy clubs are doing very well and most comedy concerts are selling out.

This may offer a great opportunity to capitalize on the current situation. You can become
the comedy club in your community and offer people a break from the bad news of the day.

The room should hold 100 to 300 people with good seating and tables. Small cocktail tables are best. You want the audience to be seated as close to each other as possible, laughter is contagious. A stage or riser is necessary to give the audience a good line of sight. Some stage lighting is also required to get the full effect of the show and to help give the room a show biz feel. The number one thing required for a good comedy show is a good sound system. The greatest act in the world will fail if the audience cant hear them.

The venue will have to draw a crowd because the acts will change each week. You must become known as the place for a great comedy show.
Provide a quality funny show and provide great service to improve your revenue.

Youcan promote with posters, direct mail and e-mail. News paper adds are an option and you will definitely want to send out a press release. Most all comedy clubs have a two item minimum purchase and you should too.

Work with a comedy booking agent like Killer Comedy Online or Comedy Tour Live that have extensive rosters of comics and specialty acts. There is an old saying in the comedy club business. "They don't come for the chicken wings" if you have a great show your audience will tell their friends and word will spread fast.

Use a local MC to get the people focused on the stage and keep the show moving. They will then bring up the feature act. The feature act should do 30 minutes and the headliner will do 50 minutes to an hour.

The comics will usually take care of any heckling but if someone wont be quiet they should be asked to leave. Your patron paid to see a professional show not someone in the audience that wants attention.

Comedy night can provide substantial revenue for you, and offer your customer a welcome relief from the stress of every day life.

What Happened to The Stand Up comics of the 80s and 90s

What Ever Happened to all those great stand up comics working clubs in the 80s and 90s

If you are old enough to remember the comedy boom of the 80s and 90s you remember some great comics as well. The comedy boom for those of you that dont know was a time when comedy clubs exploded in popularity. Prior to that time comedy clubs were found in big cities like New York and LA.

When the comedy boom hit cities that never had a club suddenly had a number of them. At one point Phoenix had seven clubs and the city was much smaller than it is today. Even small towns had one nighters in hotels and bars that were packing in crowds.

Pushed by cable television shows like An Evening at the Improv and others a five minute set could propel an unknown comic to headliner status in a matter of days. The comedy clubs were packed with laughing paying crowds offering hedge amounts of stage time for the comics to develop there skills.

Today we enjoy the talents of those that developed there comic skills during this time like Tim Allen, Ellen, and Jay Leno to name just a few. Most all of the sit coms we enjoy today are the result of creative process started back in these times.

While today there are not nearly as many comedy clubs, the ones that are open have the a great pool of talent to choose from. Many of the great headliners that we not lucky enough to hit it big have continued to perform and hone there skills on stage. The quality of the talent for a good comedy club has never been better and the comedy fan has a great opportunity of seeing a polished and professional act.

The sad part of show business is talent is not the one thing that determines weather some becomes famous or not. In many cases the less talented got lucky or was in the right place at the right time or just had the right look.

We call this group of talented comics that have become stars rather than major stars funnier than famous. The nice thing for the comedy fan is they can still go see them at a great price at the local comedy club.
This is not to take away from the accomplishments of those that did become supper stars. We are fortunate they did. We just want to let you know about the other gifted comics still pounding the road working the comedy club stage and hope that some of them soon get the shot to step to the next level. In the mean time if you get the chance to see them, go do it they are well worth the cover charge.

"Talent, talented and more talent" is how the CBS news series '48 hours' has described Billy D. Washington. Billy D is one national touring headliner you do not want to miss. He has spent years developing his unique style and it shows. His show flows from one hilarious observation to a snappy punch line so smoothly, it is easy to see why he has been called the smoothest man in comedy. He makes the difficult art form of stand up comedy, look easy because he is a master.

He is equality comfortable sitting at a grand piano in a theater, as he is with a single microphone in a smoky comedy club. Billy is a witty, philosophical, piano-playing comedian, who works as a nationally recognized headliner. "It's weird" Billy muses in a recent newspaper article, "After my shows even though people have laughed their hearts out all night, they ask me why am I not doing something else"?

Billy is not only talented musically, he possesses an incredible ability to create cleverly constructed jokes and improvise obscure audience situations. After an hour of this poetic and intelligent banter, people often wonder why they haven't heard more of him. He is funnier than famous and one of the most sought after comedians in the country, if you don't believe it...ask Ms. Aretha Franklin.

After opening one of her concerts in November 2000, Aretha was so impressed that she requested Billy to do tour dates from that day forward, he has been the opening act for Aretha Franklin since then.

Billy D was one of the original VH-1 V-jays. In 1998 after several stimulating comedy sets at HBO's Aspen Comedy Festival, Billy was hired by VH-1 network to host several of their programs. These programs included, The Michael Jackson Music Video Collection, The History of Music Video A-Z and a daily slot hosting the video music show.

Billy has been most recently featured on comedy Central's Premium Blend and has had numerous television appearances including HBO, Fox, NBC, CBS and Last Comic Standing. He is one of the most sought after comedians in the country for corporate and private functions.

His incredible talent on the key boards and stand up comedy is something you do not want to miss. When Billy D Washington comes to your city make a special effort to get tickets. If you like pure talent you will not be disappointed and his closing bit will send a shiver down your spine.

Tips For A Successful Corporate Comedy Event

Tips For A Successful Corporate Comedy Event

The corporate comedy event can transform the usual dull banquet or holiday party a huge success. While it can be a challenge to entertain your corporate officers and staff with a comedy show it can also be a great way to break down barriers with in the organization.

The number one thing to do is to book the right act. The comic should have vast experience with corporate comedy events. You don't want some armature just learning comedy to do it while your reputation is at stake. The comic should understand that this is not a comedy club gig and they need to keep it clean. Again get a professional that is used to working clean. Their promo pack should include a list of past events and performances. If this list is only comedy clubs with no other corporate or cruse ship appearances listed be careful. A good agent or booker can help find you someone experienced in this specific type venue.

Once you have the right act picked out it is time to consider some other things that will help allow the comic to be at his or her very best.

Good sound and lights are a must. The funniest comic in the world will get nothing if they can not be heard. Good light is also important. A riser or stage will allow better sight lines for the audience is also helpful but not required.

If dinner is also part of the evening it is best to have dinner concluded prior to the start of the entertainment. The clearing of dishes and noise associated with it will detract form the show.

If you are having an awards presentation that should take place after the show. Many trophy stores online offer a great selection and discount pricing, but make sure you give them enough time for production and shipping.

An officer of the company should say a few words prior to the entertainment. Welcome remarks and thanks to the organizer would be appropriate. This will help people get settled and focus on the stage.

The intro for the comic should start with some credits where the audience may have seen them. The intro should always climax with the acts name. Any inside information about the company or individuals in attendance can help make the event more fun. While many of the corporate comedy acts have built in bits for this a little input is helpful.
The comic will usually do 30 to 45 minutes. Remember if the audience has just had a large meal they will start to get sleepy if they have to sit much longer than that and you still want them awake if you have awards or speeches later.

There you have done it, put together a successful corporate comedy event and you can now enjoy the positive comments from all those in attendance.

Comedian Caroline Picard Returns from Iraq Tour To Uncertain Future.

Comedian Caroline Picard Returns from Iraq Tour To Uncertain Future.

Caroline Picard will soon return from one of her numerous tours performing for our troops to an uncertain future. This national touring headliner lives in Galveston Texas and while she was in Iraq her home was hit by hurricane Ike. She is not sure what she will find when she returns home but it will look much like the place she has been performing, a war zone.

A favorite with the troops, Caroline has performed in Ramstein and Sembach, AB Germany, Darmstadt Army Base, Darmstadt Germany, La Madelina Navy Base, La Madelina, Italy, Sigonella Base, Sicily, Osan, Busan, Navy Seoul, Okinawa, Camp Shields, as well as Tokyo, Atsugi, Sasebo, Iwakunia, Yukota, Camp Zuma, Masawa, Yokuoska Bases in Japan, and NAS Bahrain, the Persian Gulf. She has over 12 world wide tours for the troops to date and loves performing for them.

An award winning, national and international touring comic for 14 years, this Louisiana-bred lady is fueled by Coors Lite, Crown Royal and a serious "HOT FLASH ATTITUDE". She calls her style of comedy "WSIWYG", WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET". "Hell, I'm 54, I'm all grown up, I say what I want, why? Because, I can. I've paid my dues, in more ways than one. I've worked for the phone company, most major Oil and Gas corporations as an Executive Financial Secretary, and I've run my own restaurant. I've been laid off, downsized, and with the restaurant, lost everything I owned.

I can still do the same things now that I did when I was 20, evidently I didn't get that "Now that you're over 50 you die" memo. I'm part of the "Boomer Generation, we listen to no one." "If you are easily offended, then leave my planet, it's time to grow up and get your head out of your ass, that's got to be uncomfortable."

Caroline will return home in mid September and will soon be on tour in comedy clubs and concerts through out the country. If you get a chance to see her straight shooting, comedy act in your town, go see her. This is one tough Cajun lady that wont let Ike slow her down, and she will probably have a new tem minutes of material out of it. If you cant see her live check her out online for some funny comedy clips.

Watch Comedy For Stress Relief

With todays fast paced life style many people are dealing with more stress than ever. Factor in the raising cost of gas and slowing of the economy and it is clear to see a population that is stressed out. Growing data indicates that a good belly laugh may be the best way to battle stress. So go to the local comedy club or check out the free comedy clips on line for some stress relief.

Laughter's benefit on your health is no joke, and provide both long term and short term benefits. When you laugh, it doesn't just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body.

Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain. A good laugh cools down your stress response and increases your heart rate and blood pressure. A good, relaxed feeling, and lower stress rates are the result. Laughter can also ease digestion and stimulate circulation, which helps reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Long term benefits include an improved immune system. Negative thoughts manifest into chemical reactions that can impact your body by bringing more stress into your system and decrease your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts actually release neuropathies that help fight stress and potentially more serious illnesses. One study, of people with cancer who watched humorous videos showed less stress. and an increase in a particular cell activity that's beneficial in fighting diseases such as HIV and cancer. Research increasingly shows that laughter may ease pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.

Laughter can also help make difficult situations a little bit easier. One study of nurses who work in emergency rooms found that nurses who use humor in dealing with their patients and co-workers experience greater job satisfaction. They also experienced feelings of personal accomplishment more than do those who do not laugh during their shifts.

The data is in that laughter is good for you, and it is a lot of fun too. So get that funny movie or go to the comedy club or watch stand up comedy online to enjoy the positive effects of humor on your body and mind.
